SHOWstudio is owned and directed by Nick Knight who is involved in all aspects of its programming and running. The SHOWstudio team is made up of eleven staff members, eight of which operate from a studio based in the Clerkenwell district of London. The studio comprises Design, Editorial, Production and Technical departments.
Nick Knight took part in a live IN CAMERA webchat in May 2006 in which he answered questions from SHOWstudio viewers and numerous key industry players. A transcript of the interview is available to view, covering a broad range of topics such as his photographic career, influences and inspirations, SHOWstudio and his personal life. You can also view Nick’s biography in the Contributors section and view his past projects in the ‘Archive’. His work has been included in numerous publications, namely Skinhead (October 1982), Flora (June 2003) and Nicknight (December 1995).
SHOWstudio is an online fashion broadcasting company committed to showing the process of creativity. Throughout its first four years, SHOWstudio has consistently broken new ground in pioneering new forms of interactive and motion imagery at its London studio and broadcasting these unique art and fashion collaborations via its award-winning website. Providing a ‘view from within’ the industry, its aim is to unpack every aspect of fashion image-making, from the generation of ideas and production stages through to the problem solving and minutiae of executing the final images.
Initial investigations into live, interactive fashion—contained within a 250-strong archive of projects on the site—are now being extended into opportunities for SHOWstudio’s international viewer-base to be directly involved in shaping the new content of the site. Each project undertaken will be documented in detail, using a ‘weblog-like’ structure to provide regular textual progress updates. SHOWstudio process favourites such as live portfolio sessions, model go-sees, artists’ films, picture phone diaries and live shoots will be used to broadcast and record the projects’ creative evolution and crucially, viewers will be able to pose questions and suggestions to SHOWstudio staff and contributors at every stage via feedback boards.
It is SHOWstudio’s intention that this two-way communication of fashion process is every bit as engaging as the final result.
There are numerous ways in which you can contact a member of the SHOWstudio team. You can either use the ‘People’ link in the STUDIO section of SHOWstudio site, or if you are not sure whom to contact, you can use the form on the ‘Contact’ link in the STUDIO section. Your enquiry will then be fielded to the relevant person.
We are unable to give out contact details for our contributors. Many of the biographies will contain a link to their webpage or contact details for their agent.
We run two types of internships. An editorial internship would involve assisting Fashion Director Alexander Fury and Editorial and Production Manager Laura Bradley. This would suit a student or graduate from a fashion degree who has an interest in journalism and would require strong organisational, communication and administration skills.
A design internship would involve working closely with design and technical staff. This would suit a student or graduate from a graphics or photography related degree and would require them to possess some knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. We are unable to offer internships for students or graduates interested in a career in styling or someone looking for specific photographic experience.
If you would like to apply please send a covering letter detailing your availability and a copy of your CV to Laura Bradley.
Nick has two full-time assistants who are taken on for a period of three years. If you would like further details please contact Laura Bradley. If you are interested in applying, please contact Charlotte Wheeler.
Please contact Alex Fury or Laura Bradley for further details.
Strictly no images are to be used from the SHOWstudio website without prior permission. Please contact Alex Fury or Laura Bradley for further information.

Post New Message always appears as the last response in the topic thread, so a "message" will always appear at the end. Reply to this appears within the topic thread, following the message you are replying to. "Messages" should be the main topic of the thread, whilst "replies" allows you respond to a specific point someone has made, and create a "branch-off" conversation. For this reason, "replies" are shown in italic and are indented to show the branching-off. Forum moderators will allow more flexibility for straying off-topic in a "reply", than in the main "message" thread.
The SHOWstudio team collectively moderates the forums. Under normal circumstances, at least two team members would need to agree before taking any moderation action.
Moderation is the activity of overseeing Forum discussions to ensure that conversations remain relevant and civil for the benefit of all Forum users. Users who post messages which are not in any way useful to the topic being discussed, may have their message deleted or moved to another Forum. For example, a message which is off-topic might be moved to the Open Forum.
No, we will never censor opinions that we do not agree with, though you will need to present your case to the others in the forum. There are exceptions to this rule in cases of abusive, racist and sexist posts. See our Forum Rules.
If we believe you have posted a picture to which you do not have copyright, we will need to remove it for legal reasons. Pornographic and offensive images will also be removed. Nudity in imagery is allowed providing it is not, in the opinion of SHOWstudio, pornographic.
No, your image will never be sold or used on any project other than SHOWstudio. You will retain any copyright you hold for an image. However, if you do post an image, you may not demand that it is removed or replaced at a future date. See the full Forum Rules for further details.
Each Forum has it's own palette, but the colours do not mean anything and are assigned randomly each time you load a Forum page. As well as making the pages more appealing, each time you view a Forum Topic list, you may notice a topic that did not stand out before.
We have experienced some bugs with Safari's handling of image uploads. If Safari 'hangs' or 'freezes' during an attempted upload, cancel the process (command + '.') and try again. NB Upload time will vary depending on your image size and the speed of your internet connection. Only retry an upload when you are absolutely sure the process isn't working.
Check that your image's filename has the correct file extension (i.e. '.jpg'), no special character (i.e. 'é', 'ü', etc), no extra punctuation (i.e. '/', ',', '!', '#', etc) and no spaces. You can use '_' or '–' instead of a space.
Your image file may be corrupted. Try saving or re-exporting it again from your chosen image editing software.

. If you scale the image yourself in a photo-editing program such as PhotoShop, this will mean that we do not need to re-size it for you, and it may look better. The actual size of an Avatar image is 90 pixels wide by 120 pixels high (at 72 dpi). After you have reduced your image to this size, it may benefit from applying a 'sharpen' filter.
Until you upload an Avatar image, your Avatar is represented by a coloured or grey box. Coloured boxes are assigned when you Login, and up until then it remains grey. The colour is calculated from your IP address, meaning each Viewer will receive a unique colour.
